This beautiful hand-dyed silk and merino wool-silk embroidery kit is a Storyteller Stitchery x Jessica Long Embroidery collaboration.

A little bird cannot resist a sweet treat from the garden.

Jessica designed this piece with inspiration from William Morris's iconic Strawberry Thief, and stitched her own version of the bandit, caught mid-theft among the vines and the fruit he just can't resist.

The design comes printed on soft grey blue cotton, ready for the hoop. Nine colors of hand-dyed thread came out of our dye pots for this piece alone: five in Moonspun silk, four in Seren merino wool-silk.

New to embroidery? This kit contains everything you need, plus Jessica's own guide to your first stitches and video tutorials to follow along as you stitch.

What's in the kit:

  • Fabric permanently printed with the Song of the Garden Bandit design
  • 5" beechwood embroidery hoop
  • Embroidery needles
  • Nine colors of hand-dyed thread (five Moonspun silk, four Seren merino wool-silk)
  • Printed instructions and Jessica's beginner guide
  • Link to Jessica's video tutorials to stitch this kit

Note: This design is a collaboration with Jessica Long Embroidery and is only available as a kit. There is no pattern release for this design.

Caring for Hand-Dyed Fibers

These threads are hand-dyed in small batches in our studio in Arizona.

Steam blocking is recommended for finished needlepoint and embroidery pieces — it relaxes the fibers and evens the stitches without exposing the thread to water.

Our dyes are professional-grade and mostly colorfast, but as with all hand-dyed fiber, we cannot guarantee 100% colorfastness. Please test before washing any finished piece by wetting a small sample and pressing it against a white cloth or paper towel.

Colors may vary slightly between dye batches. If you are stitching a large piece, we recommend purchasing all thread for that piece at once.
